UNIT – 4  PROSE    

 

TITLE          -       THE ATTIC

INTRODUCTION

             The story defines the fact that man on one side is simple & pure on the other side is jealous & egoistic. But after aging the immature soul changes.

 

PARAGRAPH

            The author &Aditya went to his village. He recollected old memories. In a tea shop they met Sanyal who came near them and recited Tagore’s poem and went away. His act was really weird. Aditya visited his ancestral house. He went to the attic & searched something. The attic was a real mess but he found his object. It was a medal that he borrowed from his friend Sanyal 29 years ago. Being hit by the strong feeling of shame Aditya urged to meet his friend.

         Aditya was surprised to know that the man at the tea shop was Sanyal. Aditya offered him some money as a token of balancing his deed. But Sanyal demanded his medal. Money value cannot match the symbol of victory.

        “  Man does change with time perhaps Aditya is not the same as before” - Sanyal

         Aditya realized his mistake & accepted his mistake

                  “ Your grievances are justified” - Aditya

 Thus, from the attic the medal that was hidden for 29 years reached its true owner.

 

CONCLUSION

         This story which is a translation of “CHILEOKOTHA” tells that Tolerance, Forgiveness & compassion can bring man a peaceful life.
